Kobe is ichiban! (The best)
Transcribed voice memo
Hello, everybody.
I am sending a voice message today. So sorry about that if you like to read, but voice messages are fun, I feel like.Um, Pohlman Shoto here. I'm in
Kyoto, Japan.
It's so sick.I got Elder Strong as my trainer. We have been going to work.
It's been a really fun time. We're opening a new area, so we have no, like, friends. So we've been doing a lot of streeting.
Um, that's my favorite part by far is just streeting, 'cause like, I don't know, there's a...
We live, in our area, there's a couple th- uh, daigakus, some colleges. So there's a lot of college kids, and they're a lot more eager to, like, listen to us.
And so basically we'll just, like, sit on the street corners and walk around, and, "Hey, I'm an idiot from America.
Can I talk to you?" And they'll be like, "Oh. Go ahead.”And so, we'll talk to them for a little bit, and there's a lot of rejection.
Lots of people s- say no, which is, it's not easy, but a lot of people are really eager to hear and, like, listen, and just, like, hear about our stories
and about, like, our testimonies, and it's really cool. Um, we invite everybody to, like, church, and to also, like, eikaiwa,
which is English class on Tuesdays and Thursdays. And we usually get a couple people every week to come to those, which is really fun.
They're, like, so awesome.Um, my last, last Thursday on, during eikaiwa, I was at a table with six obachans, with six grannies.
Um, for those of you that, like, know Grandma Michi, just imagine six Grandma Michis at a table, yelling at you, yapping at you.
It was awesome. And I, like, don't understand any of it, but there's a stra- it's, there's a strategy.
It's called, like, the, the smile and nod strategy. And boy, it worked well. It was really fun. But, you know, like, there's,
there's a language barrier, but there's also not.
And I think that's one of, like, the most important things that I've learned is, like, a smile and just, like, showing your love, and, like, being kind to people is,
like, what the gift of tongues is about. Like, the spirit is one language, and it can touch anybody, which is really cool.
And so, that's been one of my favorite things, is just, like, being able to, like, kind of get my message across without speaking it.
But Japanese is really fun. It's cool. It's hard, but I'm learning it. It's fun. It's so fun to talk to people. So yeah, that's the streeting life.
Um, we actually had a friend, Justin, who I mentioned in that last email, and we put him on baptismal date for October 26th, so that is super exciting.
We're, like, so stoked about that, 'cause baptisms here are a really big deal.
And he's super prepared and really eager to become a better person, and so yeah, we're really excited for him. Um, it's a packed P day today.
We have so much to do. We got Indo Curry, which is unlimited curry. It's like $7, so we're super excited for that.
We're going to some insane temples, 'cause we're in Kyoto. They're, like, everywhere.
We'll be, like, riding our bikes, and there's just, like, insane temples that are just massive and so beautiful, and, like, we'll just be like, "Wow, look at that.
Like, we're in Japan." Um, it's really awesome. Um, what else? Oh, I've heard conference was good.
I've heard Elder Brown's talk was really goo- good, and he actually gave that talk in the MTC about three weeks ago, about, like, missionary work and
not burying your talents. I don't know if he talked about that. But yeah, I'd like to invite everybody to do that.
Try to be happy, smile, and share what you know with everybody.Be a good example, and don't bury your talents.
Missionary work is so fun. It's not always easy. Quite honestly, it's a grind.
Like, I've been blessed, but it's also, like, every morning I wake up and I want to go home and just, like, wake up in my own bed and sleep in. But I don't.
We're locked in. But it's really cool how, like, it's hard in the mornings, and it's hard to get going, but then you go out and you invite others to, like, come
onto Christ, you invite others to listen, and it's really rewarding and fun. So yeah, thanks, everybody, for listening. Um, hope this gets to everybody.
Um, I'm doing great. I love you all. I miss you guys. But this place is awesome and I'm loving it. So yeah, have a good week.
I forgot to mention i saw the Emperor of Japan! It was insane. He drove down the street our church is on. Everyone was going crazy. Lol
